Total Abandonment!

Posted by -NAZ-

*sigh*

Ok how long has it been since my last post? *looks at the post below*
Like 5 months or so?? To be honest there was so much procrastinating on my behalf
regarding the postage on this blog. I had a big exam at the end of last year anyway (excuses) :P

Moving on! Today I had a sudden urge to finally open my blog
and I felt that I had so much things that I can write about.
So these are some of the stuff that happened for the past 5 months :-

Firstly I had my 2nd sem exams end of last year.
I had to take up to a whopping 11 papers!!! That's crazy wei!!
There was seriously so many things to study. A-levels is SO NOT EASY!!!
I felt good for most of it but not for the Unit 4 papers.
But what's done is done. huhu~~

So this week my results will be out on thursday.
Unlike my 1st sem results, these results will probaby be displayed somewhere in college.
Out in the open for everyone to see! Public Humiliation MUCH!!
Or maybe they will just give us the exam slips. (hopefully!!)

As some of you might know, I applied for UCAS which is for UK universities.
And I had replies from most of the uni!
I had a conditional offer from University of Manchester first.
Conditional offer being that I have to be able to get the required grades set by the uni first
before I can be given a place there. They asked for AAB grades.

Then I had another conditional offer from University College London(UCL)!!
I was so damn happy when I knew about this!
UCL is like one of the top uni. in the world and somemore its in London! Damn nice.
The condition was AAB which was quite ok.
On the same day I had another conditional offer from University of Birmingham
and they set a condition of BBB(this would totally be my insurance choice).

All of the previous offers are for Biotechnology course.
Then the most recent one was from Cardiff University.
But they offered me a Molecular Biology course since they replied to me earlier saying that
Biotechnology course wont be held for the coming intake. WTH!!
Nevertheless they asked for ABB grades.

So basically I had 4 conditional offers as of now.
And I'm still waiting for the reply from Imperial College London. This was my first choice.
Out of all the offers I can only choose 2 to reply to.
1 firm choice and 1 insurance choice.

Currently I'm trying to apply for any available scholarships related to my course.
It would seriously relieve some of the burden from my parents if I can get scholarship.

So I guess I've talked a bit too much this time around. haha!
Until the next post.
SEE YA!

Random Update

Posted by -NAZ-

Hey there!!!

This post is just a random post that I would like to share with you guys
on some of the things that I have done lately, what I'm currently doing and also
what I plan to do in the future.
  • As you all know I'm currently fasting and just recently my family and I went out to eat during the breaking of fast. This is so unusual because we have never went out to break fast before as far as I remember. We would usually buy some food at the Bazaar Ramadhan and eat at home. But we decided to break from the norm and eat at the House of Pakeeza which catered for indian foods. Throughout the fasting month there will be a buffet style eating during the break fast time. So it was quite delightful and totally satisfying. :)

  • I've been going out with my friends lately for a few times. Mostly to watch movies as always. Anyway last week we went out to Tropicana City Mall which is still new right after our lectures. There's nothing much there to begin with as its not that big. So we decided to watch District 9 at that time. I've been wanting to watch that movie like for ages already and finally had the chance to do so last week. Although the approach that was used to make the movie is a bit different than the usual and also the fact that its quite vulgar and damn brutal, but it lived up to my expectations as the story line was really great. It also made me think at how inhumane and cruel human beings like all of us can be.

  • Now on to the serious stuff. This whole month I need to complete my personal statement as in October there will be checking sessions with MABECS. So I went through the internet to read some of the samples that people wrote. There was this one which was really good and the person got into Oxford by using his personal statement. He wrote that he read a lot of reading materials relating to his course. So that is exactly what I'm trying to accomplish now! haha!! Bought two books and a whole bunch of New Scientist magazines to read.

  • Apart from that, I need to find some kind of exposure towards my course. So I wrote a letter to the Microbiology Laboratory at Universiti Malaya to apply for a study tour. This study tour would really benefit me as I can gain experience on something related to my course. I can also see the action going on in the lab first hand and I would definitely be able to write about what I learnt during the study tour in my ps.

Freaking OUT!!!

Posted by -NAZ-

Why am I freaking out you ask?
Well its just that in 3 more days my 1st sem A-levels results will be out!!!
AAAAAAAAARRRRGGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
I'm not even sure what to expect of my results.
The thing is when you do a-levels exams you won't really know whether you did good or not.
Mostly because of the ridiculous time constraints for each test taken.
Unless your like a damn genius or something.
But normal students like me will usually have mixed emotions after the exams are over.
Not really sure whether you aced it or not.
Just the feeling of relieved that most questions are answered and just hope for the best.
To add to that anxiety over the outcome of the results,
I really need to score this exam as it will definitely affect my UCAS application.
The reason being that the results of my first sem a-levels will be used as a reference
in change for a conditional offer from the universities that I chose. A total of 5 of them.
Besides than the personal statement and reference letter from the college,
my 1st sem results play a huge role in getting me a conditional offer.
Especially from Imperial College London which is the highest ranking university amongst the five that I chose.
Being the highest ranking university, I need to be freaking brilliant to get in.
To do that I need good results!!! God I'm so desperate!!! haha.
Guess that's all for now. =)

UCAS Application

Posted by -NAZ-

For the past few weeks there were talks given by MABECS
at my college about everything you need to know on the UCAS application for 2010 entry.
UCAS is actually used for those students who plans to further their study in UK.
So I happen to be one of them and I went for the respective talks.
In some ways it was quite informative.
There was this one talk for those applying for the sciences course.
As usual most of those who came plans to do medicine which is the hardest application in UK.
When the person started to talk about the Biotechnology course,
I guess I was the only one who plans to take biotech from my college
as I was the only one who responded when the person asked who plans to take it.
But I don't care as there would be less competition for me right?
So it only took a few minutes for the person to talk about biotech.
And she took like most of the time talking about medicine and dentistry.
Ok enough of that, next week on 6th of August
is the deadline for me to hand in my CV Summary to the A-levels Department.
So I really should start doing it by now.
Its not that much to type actually, just your past achievements.
If you're wondering what this CV is for,
its actually acts as a guide for my mentor to write a reference letter
for my UCAS application. Hopefully it turns out alright.
I also need to write my personal statement which is quite challenging
as that will solely differentiate me from other applicants
because there won't be any interviews for my course.
So you get the picture that I really need to nail my personal statement.
It needs to be superb!!!! lolz....
Guess thats all for now... =)
